I am running for the State Representative for District 119. I believe the voices of conservative Republicans have not been heard. When elected, I will change that for this district.
There are three main items I want to see changed in Austin for 2011. The first item is the appointment process of the TXDOT board. I believe all positions with the ability to spend tax dollars should be elected.
Second, the current margins tax needs to be repealed. The margins tax is now based on the gross sales of a business. As a business owner I know I only get paid on the net profit. So why am I taxed on money even before I can call it my own? The system needs to be changed so that we use the net profit to figure the tax amount. Many small to medium businesses have closed due to this particular tax legislation.
The third item is the tuition prices charged by state supported colleges. With the deregulation of school tuition we have seen prices explode to new heights. Some state colleges have raised this expense almost every year. At this rate, class of 2020 will have spent over $80,000 in tuition alone. A state supported college should be affordable for all individuals wishing to attend. Price should not exclude some from the American dream of higher education.
